There is no way I could have accomplished this without a LOT of support
and help. I know I am going to forget people since there have been so
many who have been a part of this with me.
Absolutely the first is my wife and kids. We all realized this training
was essentially going to cost us an entire summer of
being
together as a family. I can't thank them enough for accepting,
supporting, and even pushing me.
The rest, in no particular order
- My employer - without the scheduling
flexibility they allowed, I don't know how I could have fit the
training in.
- All my riding pals in the SJBC and the
SMPSBR
riders - it is hard to go out & do the long rides solo. They
made
it fun, and I really looked forward to each of the rides with those
guys.
- Dr Allyn Smith @ Performance Plus
Rehabilitation
Center - Allyn went out of his way to help me through a minor injury I
sustained during training. Without him, it definitely had the
potential to escalate from inconvenience to deal-breaker.
- Squirb - for going out to Smithville Lake
& paddling a kayak alongside as I swam. It had to be boring.
- Shannon Corley - loaned me his bike case
- Every person who had to listen to me talk
incessantly about this race for the last 6 months
- Bill Cortner - volunteered to be my swim coach.
I
still can't swim too well, but I think I improved quite a bit under his
tutelage.
- MaryAnn and Michael Crowe, Carol Heckman, and
Mary
and Bill Garvey - for watching the kids for us and making it great fun
for them.
- Stu Churchill, Rick Grebner, John and Mike
Garvey,
Bryce Pittman, and Jeff Lambing for travelling all the way to Hawaii to
surprise me at mile 78. Un-freakin-believable. I love you guys.
