Michael Sanders came to see us off at the airport in KC |

Minivan we rented in Kona packed with our gear |

We spent a lot of time on the balcony, eating, updating, drinking, etc |

Us at the expo. I can't believe how expansive it was and how
much stuff they had on display and for sale. |

Me at the pre-race meeting. They held it in the sun in the
highest heat of the day. I guess they were trying to get us acclimated
to race conditions. |

These "Caution Ironman Athletes in Training" signs were all up
& down the highway |

Each morning around 7 folks would gather & go swim on the
course for a while |

Another 7am pic. Crazy enough that the athletes were out there, but the
spectators too? |

We had some goofy fun at the Underpants Run (and raised money for
children's special olympics) |

More underpants running |

One jumping jack, then check your heart rate |

Vic's secret team? |

Brunch at a guy's house. Sarah Reinertsen there too. |

Patty & me at same brunch |

Sign at local bike shop. I didn't ask. |

Mmmmmm. Honey crisp apples! |

Part of a golf course. Good luck hitting this green. |

Me out training on the Queen K highway |

Back on that balcony |

Us |

Me |

Me again |

Signing up for another one, the day before the race. |

My hottie |

Where is this thing supposed to go? |

Going to bike/gear check-in the day before the race |

Preparing the finish line area. It was quite a presentation. |

Race morning, ready to go get 'em. |

Right before the good luck kiss |

Rainbow right before the start. That's gotta be a good sign, right? |

Athletes getting ready to swim out to the start line. |

I couldn't beleive my eyes when I found this at about mile 78
of the bike |

Picture taken from a van full of hecklers |

How'd I get sunburned in the middle of all that rain? |

After 6 days on an island, we finally dug out swimsuits and found a
beach. |

My family crew |

Cool banners |

We left this much stuff. More in the cabinets too. |

Airport shuttle |

Dinner time on Maui |

New friends. They both kicked ass in the race. |

Support crew chasing after me
|
Shortly after the race ended, I was in comfortable surroundings.
|

Patty running alongside me for a while. I had to ask her to slow down. |

Back at the finish line to watch the last folks come in. They got more of a crowd response than the first people who came in. |

It rained so hard & so quickly that for a while that this is what
the finishing area looked like. God bless Patty & the others for
sitting in that downpour to wait for me! |

Mass swim start. Like being a blender. |

Look at those imprints around my eyes. Think I wore the goggles too
tightly? |
 |
 |
 |

Argh. Swim then BIKE. So the pictires are out of order. I'm too lazy to
switch them right now. |

See that? Carrying the gatorade cup? Keeping Hawaii clean. |
 |
 |

Who else thought Hawaii was supposed to be lush, green, tropical
location? I felt like I was on the surface of the moon for a good
portion of the race. |
 |

Where is the beer tent? |

Couldn't have done it without her! |

For you, guys. |
